Public Relations Account Coordinator

Are you a top-performing public relations professional with a knack for making media relationships and a keen eye for news? If so, then we are looking for you—our new PR ACCOUNT COORDINATOR.
The public relations account coordinator is knowledgeable and passionate about news across many verticals. You have a fond interest in how things work and a knack for wanting to tell the bigger story behind an organization, service or product. You can’t help but think like a journalist, identifying angles that you know will pique the media’s interest, including the unique story behind a startup, the evolution of a company and why a destination stands out amongst others.
You should be familiar with the basics of public relations and have excellent communication skills, both written and orally. You should have proven skills for pitching, placing, and writing stories. This position is responsible for securing coverage for assigned clients and engaging their relevant audiences through earned media tactics.
You should be able to work collaboratively with a remote team to brainstorm media angles, research trending topics, create media lists, write content, pitch media and secure media coverage. In addition to these responsibilities, the Account Coordinator will begin training and moving into a client facing role on accounts.
As our ideal candidate, you are a creative and succinct writer who can understand complex topics and turn them into interesting PR related content such as feature story pitches, press releases, thought-leadership articles, blogs and other types of content. You are also an excellent communicator who demonstrates initiative and is capable of building and maintaining strong working relationships with journalists and colleagues.
Job Responsibilities
You will be responsible for creating pitch content, researching and pitching relevant journalists based on a wide swath of topics, placing content and drafting secured thought leadership/op-ed articles by the agency. You will work closely with our tech PR team, and must be organized and have attention to detail to support various projects at one time. You will act both reactively and proactively, fulfilling requests as needed and regularly tracking trends, topics, and ideas for angles on a variety of clients.
Media Relations
- Understand the makings of a news story
- Actively participate in creative brainstorming sessions and offers original ideas
- Assist in monitoring trends and communicate effectively up the line keeping managers abreast of issues and opportunities
- Proactively work with clients and PR team to identify news angles that align with client messaging and goals.
- Write press releases, media advisories, pitches, talking points.
- Collaborate with PR team to secure media coverage that aligns with clients’ various audiences, including locally, regionally, nationally and with industry-specific media.
- Pitch and place thought leadership articles.
- Develop yearly/quarterly content calendars and contribute to client strategy planning with creative ideas
- Review and update annual editorial calendars to influence content calendars.
- Pitch, develop and maintain media relationships.
- Influencer outreach and coordination
- Research: past client coverage, competitor stories and analysis, pitch ideas, innovative PR campaigns
Account Management
- Writing agendas, taking meeting notes and delivering action oriented recaps.
- Track media placements with reporting tools.
- Compile monthly, quarterly and annual recap reports, as directed by account lead.
- Conduct award research, working with team/client to draft submission.
PR Writing
- Writing and editing content, including but not limited to:
- Pitches
- Press releases
- Thought leadership/opinion pieces
- Blogs
- Social Media posts
Requirements
- Must have 1 year of media relations and writing experience as a PR professional OR be a recent graduate with a journalism/marketing degree.
- Have experience in media relations locally, regionally and nationally and ideally on tech and business-to-business accounts.
- Must have a versatile writing style and the ability to deliver a range of voices.
- Ability to research, understand and then communicate complex and technical concepts to various audiences.
- Ability to write on a deadline and be organized.
- Ability to interview subject matter experts (SMEs) and write content based on the information received.
- Proven ability to pitch reporters and place stories.
- Proven ability to understand why a story is newsworthy for a certain audience, and not another.
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with journalists.
- Be willing to use a digital project management system to traffic assignments and communicate between teams.
- Have excellent client communication skills.
- Proficient in Google Software including Gmail, Google Sheets, Google Drive, etc.
- Proficient in AP Style
- Working knowledge of social media channels for business purposes
- Mastery of media alert & press release writing
- Positive outlook and willingness to learn
Preferred Expertise and Qualifications
- Experience using MuckRack, Cision, Meltwater or other related PR software
- Proficiency or fluency in written and spoken Spanish
- Experience with public sector and/or health care public relations or marketing
- Geographically located in Nevada
Education
- A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing Communications or other relevant field, or equivalent work experience.
