RENO, Nev. (March 14, 2022) — As the humanitarian crisis in the Ukraine continues to deepen, local organizations are joining together to raise funds that directly support on-the-ground humanitarian efforts for refugees fleeing the country.

A silent auction and raffle will be held this Saturday, March 19 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. at  The Village at Rancharrah with items from Lake Tahoe resorts, local businesses, restaurants and more. For those unable to attend, the Northern Nevada International Center (NNIC) is accepting cash donations through a dedicated PayPal account.

“The Northern Nevada International Center is often engaged in activities that have far-reaching global impact as well as direct influence within our neighborhoods, and our teams were devastated by Russia’s invasion of a sovereign Ukraine,” said Dr. Carina Black, executive director of the University of Nevada, Reno’s Northern Nevada International Center. “We’re honored to work alongside the Abbi Agency and the many donors and partners stepping up to the plate to raise critical funds for Ukrainian relief efforts. When so much is uncertain about this developing situation, economic assistance is a powerful way to immediately impact outcomes for those affected and we hope the community will join us in our shared work to alleviate suffering where we can.”

“The invasion of Ukraine has been heart-breaking, senseless, impossible to comprehend. While we are doing everything we can to help our team members in the Ukraine escape safely, many of us have felt helpless in how we can demonstrate meaningful support for those on the ground,” said Abbi Whitaker, President & Founder of The Abbi Agency. “In addition to denouncing the conflict and publicly standing with the Ukrainian people, raising money to help civilians escape safely is where we will have the most impact. We have partnered with NNIC to raise funds that will go directly to nonprofits on the ground doing just that.”
