PUBLIC-SECTOR COMMUNICATIONS ARE CHANGING FAST

New technology, shifting media habits, declining trust, misinformation and growing expectations are changing how government organizations reach and engage the communities they serve.

The Public Sector Pulse Summit, an initiative of The Abbi Agency, is a free virtual event bringing public-sector communications professionals together to explore what’s changing, what it means for their work and how they can prepare for what’s ahead.

And instead of deciding what you need to hear about, we’re asking you.

Insights from the 2026 Public Sector Pulse Survey will help shape Summit topics and speakers, creating conversations around the challenges and opportunities public communicators say matter most.

The Public Sector Pulse Summit is designed for professionals responsible for communicating on behalf of government agencies, public institutions and the communities they serve.

That includes:

  • Communications and marketing directors
  • Public information officers
  • Communications and public affairs managers
  • Social media and digital communications professionals
  • Community engagement professionals
  • Media relations and public relations professionals
  • Communications coordinators and specialists
  • Government and public affairs professionals
  • Executive communications professionals
  • Agency leaders and executives who oversee communications

Whether you work for a state agency, city, town, county, higher education institution, K–12 system, public health organization, transportation agency, special district, economic development organization or another public entity, the Summit is designed with your work in mind.

While Public Sector Pulse has a particular focus on Arizona, Montana, Nevada and New Mexico, public-sector communicators from across the country are welcome.

The Summit agenda will be informed by original research from public-sector communicators, with sessions focused on the issues shaping the profession now and in the years ahead.

Topics may include:

The Future of Public-Sector Communications
Explore the trends public communicators believe will have the greatest impact over the next three years.

AI & Emerging Technology
Learn how communications teams are approaching AI, where it can create efficiencies and what public-sector organizations should consider as adoption grows.

Trust, Misinformation & Community Engagement
Explore strategies for reaching communities, building credibility and communicating in an increasingly fragmented information environment.

The Changing Media Landscape
Examine how social media, declining local news coverage, video and changing audience behaviors are reshaping how government communicates.

Doing More With Limited Resources
Hear how other communications teams are navigating staffing, budgets, leadership buy-in and increasing expectations.

What’s Ahead for 2027
Learn what your peers are prioritizing and where public-sector communications professionals see the greatest challenges and opportunities ahead.

Final topics and speakers will be informed by findings from the 2026 Public Sector Pulse Survey.

Before the Summit, we’re asking public-sector communicators to tell us what they’re seeing in their own organizations.

The 2026 Public Sector Pulse Survey examines staffing, budgets, resources, communications challenges, audience behavior, media, AI, emerging trends and what public communicators need to succeed.

Your responses will help shape Summit programming and contribute to the 2027 Public Sector Pulse Report.
