This year, The Abbi Agency formed its first ever Volunteer Committee with the expressed goal of working first-hand with local nonprofit organizations to better our community and invest in the continued growth of Reno. For The Abbi Agency, it was important to our company to give back to The Biggest Little City because our heart truly belongs to the city where it all began over 10 years ago, and through pro bono and volunteer work, cultivate the community that helped us grow many years ago.

Here are a few highlights from the work we’ve done this year! If you are interested in a pro bono partnership with The Abbi Agency, tell us a little bit about your organization by filling out out Pro Bono Partnership Application!

American Institute of Graphic Arts: Reno Tahoe

Because of The Abbi Agency’s deep connection to the organization, it was important for us to support and invest in local designers and artists in our community through our work with the Reno-Tahoe chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts.

Through social media, we partnered with AIGA to promote the organization’s TypeWalk event on August 2nd by reaching out to local designers to share graphics about the event on their page, while taking over AIGA’s Facebook and Instagram pages to hype up the event in the weeks leading up to TypeWalk.

The end result was a fantastic showing at AIGA’s TypeWalk event, in which local designers and community members alike went forth into Midtown Reno on a treasure hunt to find the best typography in the area.

The Abbi Agency additionally sponsored AIGA’s Command N event, a live design competition event that gave local designers and artists the chance to flex their design muscles and compete to be the 2018 Command N Champion. The Abbi Agency is full of creative young minds, so it was important for us to sponsor and give our time to AIGA to encourage young designers to use their artistic skill to give Reno it’s trademark originality.

Truckee Meadow Parks Foundation

Reno is lucky to be home to many gorgeous parks and trails, and with so much of our team having a passion for fitness and outdoor recreation, we knew that Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation was the perfect fit for a pro bono project.

In partnering with Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation, a local nonprofit that strives to improve the lives of northern Nevadans by enhancing the quality and sustainability of our community’s parks, The Abbi Agency had to goals for what we wanted to accomplish; promote TMPF’s Student Stewards Program, and encourage people to participate in their Truckee Meadows Trail Challenge.

The Student Stewards Program is a STEM-based curriculum free for Title I schools in the Washoe County School District that “turns parks into learning laboratories”  where students from low-income backgrounds can learn valuable lessons about science and the environment.

To help get the word out about the Student Stewards Program, The Abbi Agency designed an infographic on the benefits of the Student Stewards Program to encourage community donations to keep the program funded.

Alternatively, TMPF’s Trails Challenge is a year-long program that challenges Northern Nevadans to participate in monthly self-guided group hikes to not only explore Reno’s many great trails, but receive the mental and physical health benefits of outdoor activities.

To encourage folks to participate in the challenge, The Abbi Agency provided a comprehensive social media guide to the Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation to help them promote the Trails Challenge effectively, as well as providing influencer and contest strategy to create community intrigue surrounding the program. With these two initiatives, Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation was a pro bono project that aligned with The Abbi Agency’s commitment to community involvement, as well as our affection for education and the great outdoors.

Volunteers of America

Outside of using our agency’s skills and expertise to help pro bono clients in our area, it was also important for The Abbi Agency to give back to our community in a more hands-on way, and to see the good we strive to bring to Reno firsthand. To do this, The Abbi Agency partnered with our local Volunteers of America to create care packages for the winter and distribute them to the Volunteers of America homeless shelter in downtown Reno.

These packages contained toiletries like hand sanitizer, toothbrushes and feminine hygiene products, as well as essentials like socks and gloves. This particular project was special in that we got the whole team involved to spend an afternoon putting together upwards of 50 care packages for the shelter, and to see our whole team engaged and devoted to helping those less fortunate in our area.

After putting the packages together, we then went down to the Volunteers of America family shelter and distributed the packages to those at the shelter ourselves. To see those in our community who suffer from poverty, trauma and mental illness be so grateful  for something as simple as a pair of socks was a humbling reminder as to why we started our Volunteer Committee in the first place, and how putting your time and resources into charitable actions is a powerful investment in your community.

Celebration on the Corridor

As Downtown Reno continues to reinvent itself, The Abbi Agency saw the perfect opportunity to help local businesses craft an identity for themselves and grow as a community with the Reno Brewery District. The Reno Brewery District is an up-and-coming collective of local businesses, including Lead Dog Brewing Company, The Depot and Nevada Sunset Winery, to embrace and celebrate Reno’s emerging craft brewery and winery scene. The Abbi Agency lent our public relations and brand development skills to assist the Reno Brewery District in forming their identity and promote the District’s Celebration on the Corridor event.

Celebration on the Corridor, held on December 8th, saw the Reno Brewery District come together to engage the community in an evening of live music, pop-up art galleries and brewery and winery tours. The event was covered by local media including KOLO, KRNV, and Fox Reno. Celebration on the Corridor was a smashing success and a great introduction of the Reno Brewery District to the community, and The Abbi Agency was glad to be a part of the start of a great new chapter in Reno’s economic development.
